eyes so dark.
how could blue look black?
like blue stones
sparkling in a jeweler's window.

windows of his soul
clearer than mine they called out

wounded by all they'd seen.

and i somehow wiser than my eighteen years
looked deep in the black, saw blue
and loved him enough.
