reason

those younger days
i stood fast, certain
in my soul.

white and black
wrong and right
but

now i see in shades of grey
as wisdom comes with age
and reason to my soul.

Hi Sherry,
Shades of grey don't prevent us from telling right from wrong, they just make us less critical of others who we know are just as human as us.

Take cycling, (or motorbiking which you clearly like). Now it may not be 'wrong' not to wear a helmet, but it is still wiser to do so. I don't wear one, because I don't cycle in 'heavy traffic' - but if I did my chances of getting knocked over would increase ...

We have too types of people in Cambridge:
(1) those who are strict about cycle lanes & cycle circulation
(2) and those who understand it is not the letter of the law, but the 'spirit' of the law.

Being civil to each other and avoiding collisions is much more important, than proving who is/was right or wrong after the collision.

Glad you enjoyed Squirrel Chatter, I just knew you would. You got a whole 'herd' of squirrels. They must keep you busy. lol!

yes, you are right about that, my poem tries to show that as we age and have more life experiences we hopefully understand that tho many things are common to us all, still each person is unique and will react differently, maybe in great ways, maybe in small ways. i trust that the divine understands that even better than the best of us could. then i just go on. the "grey" is also a play on grey hair in a small way, wise old grey hair or beard.

they repealed the helmet laws in pennsylvania not long ago. me, i'd wear a helmet if i rode, tho when younger i never gave it a 2nd thought. if there was a helmet for me, fine, if not, fine.

but i do believe that if someone crashes and dies or suffers severe head injuries and they had chosen not to wear a helmet, then the other driver that may be involved(if it just isn't the biker wrecking)shouldn't be brought up on the more serious charges that may be applicable no matter the fault. me, i say wear the damn helmet, it's your brain from goodness sake. brain damage is no fun!

yes, i like the squirrel chatter a lot. my squirrels are the envy of all other squirrels. they are as big as small kittens and seem quite happy and still fast enough to evade predators.
