feasting

we eat each other up
sitting around this place
like family at the table.

some take little bites
savoring the taste before the first swallow.
so refined and ladylike.
you don't notice them picking
their teeth with the bones.

others take huge bites from the
ego served up but so greedy
they spit the bloody chunks on the floor
as they reach out to fork the last piece.

they leave an empty platter and wipe
greasy fingers on the leg of their trousers.

some slip a tastly little bit
to the dogs that drool at the feet of their masters.
the growls and snapping teeth amuse us
so we throw scraps of infidelity and abuse,
like fat cut from a well marbled steak.

we feast well and grow fat enough
to set out a bountiful table for the hungry dinners
that take our place.

fabulous imagery. Very good Thanksgiving stuff. Maybe a little more family or holiday/worship/gratitude irony?

As a work in progress, it's terrific.
