BLOG AGAINST THEOCRACY

my thoughts:

for some time now i've been posting of the struggles that wiccans
have had getting the symbol of their faith on the tombstones of
wiccan soldiers killed in afghanistan and iraq.
i think this is an appropriate subject for BLOG AGAINST THEOCRACY, to point out just how close this country has come to sanctioning some faiths and not others.
it is bad enough that our president said it is not a religion. he is entitled to his thoughts tho not to speak as president on matters of what is or is not a religion
BUT for the government to DENY the faith of a fallen soldier, well that is so
UN american as to make our forefathers turn in their own graves.

this is what a theocracy will get you.
you may not agree with a minority faith, but it's a damn slippery slope when you can die for the right to worship as you choose(or not)but not allowed the comfort of knowing your grave site is marked as you believed.

I find it rather amazing that this is even a controversy. "You live my life, and I'll live mine; and I hope you're happy, all the time"... (20 bonus points to name the tune)

i am at a loss.

i am amazed as well. i was floored to read of this fight for what i think should have never ever been a problem in the first place.

a few months ago tho, i was talking with a guy i know who is my age and he had the totally opposite opininon that i did.

he is a dedecated consevative republican and in the course of this converation i told him that my daughter has a friend(i know him and his wife quite well) who has done 2 tours in iraq and will probably be called up for a 3rd and he is a buddhist and it is on his dog tags and "yes" i answered my friend," he is a cacasian, not asian."
he refused to believe me.
go figure.

I was reading a book of quotes by GWB and was pleasantly surprised to find that sometimes he was cogent and able to walk and chew gum at the same time (talking about idiotic Republicans) so this wasn't one of those "She's a good old girl from Texas and so am I" numbers. But then he lost me when a serious quote came up about paganism not being a religion. It's the Old Religion! Been with us since we first grew legs and stepped on dry land. How ignorant can you be?!!
