i like this statue so here it is for Columbus day.
i like it because it shows 2 men, 2 equals.
Washington and Chief Guyasuta, there is another
statue of chief guyasuta that has been in sharpsburg forever it seems
and there are many things named for him but this shows the 2 leaders as equal
finally.

To me, Columbus day is such a waste. Why we still celebrate it is beyond me.
oh i can answer that 2 ways. one because it is still unfortunately a country run by white males and 2, because(as an italian with relatives in bloomfield here(pgh's little italy)
it's a great reason for a festival and carting plaster saits around but mostly, eating! ; )
funny/ ironic too in that, if columbus had come over thru ellis with my grandfather, he'd have faced a lot of sterotypical bigotry. another reason why italian-americans still make a big deal about him.
different times then. at least now, a lot of us understand the truth of it.
