SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
friday-joke day:

Spelling to get into Heaven

A woman arrived at the Gates of Heaven. While she was waiting for Saint Peter to greet her, she peeked through the gates.

She saw a beautiful banquet table. Sitting all around were her parents and all the other people she had loved and who had died before her. They saw her and began calling greetings to her "Hello - How are you! We've been waiting for you! Good to see you."

When Saint Pete r came by, the woman said to him, "This is such a wonderful place! How do I get in?" "You have to spell a word," Saint Peter told her.

"Which word?" the woman asked.

"Love."

The woman correctly spelled "Love" and Saint Peter welcomed her into Heaven.

About a year later, Saint Peter came to the woman and asked her to watch the Gates of Heaven for him that day.

While the woman was guarding the Gates of Heaven, her husband arrived. "I'm surprised to see you," the woman said. "How have you been?"

" Oh , I've been doing pretty well since you died," her husband told her. "I married the beautiful young nurse who took care of you while you were ill. And then I won the multi-state lottery. I sold the little house you and I lived in and bought a huge mansion. And my wife and I traveled all around the world. We were on vacation in Cancun and I went water skiing today. I fell and hit my head, and here I am. What a bummer! How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," the woman told him.

"Which word?" her husband asked.

"Czechoslovakia."

just got back in. went out, said hello to some friends, caught up on things and now,
back and in my snugly robe ready to channel surf a bit.

( i WISH my bed looked like this!)
you see the 2 poems below?

i like them both, but i like the bukowski better.

just me.
On Going Back To The Street After Viewing An Art Show

Charles Bukowski

they talk down through
the centuries to us,
and this we need more and more,
the statues and paintings
in midnight age
as we go along
holding dead hands.

and we would say
rather than delude the knowing:
a damn good show,
but hardly enough for a horse to eat,
and out on the sunshine street where
eyes are dabbled in metazoan faces
i decide again
that in theses centuries
they have done very well
considering the nature of their
brothers:
it's more than good
that some of them,
(closer really to the field-mouse than
falcon)
have been bold enough to try.
THE EYES OF BEAUTY

Charles Baudelaire

YOU are a sky of autumn, pale and rose;
But all the sea of sadness in my blood
Surges, and ebbing, leaves my lips morose,
Salt with the memory of the bitter flood.

In vain your hand glides my faint bosom o'er,
That which you seek, beloved, is desecrate
By woman's tooth and talon; ah, no more
Seek in me for a heart which those dogs ate.

It is a ruin where the jackals rest,
And rend and tear and glut themselves and slay--
A perfume swims about your naked breast!

Beauty, hard scourge of spirits, have your way!
With flame-like eyes that at bright feasts have flared
Burn up these tatters that the beasts have spared!

going to venture out of my house later.
1st. time in about 2 weeks. whoopee!

cold and more cold but warmer by sunday.
hope this was winter's last hurrah, but i
remember the infamous st. pat's day snowstorm
so, i'm not counting on the snow being mostly over next week!

The Ever-Patient Woman

by Andree Chedid

In the flowing sap
In her growing fever
Parting her veils
Cracking out of her shells
Sliding out of her skins

The ever-patient woman
Slowly
gives herself
life

In her volcanoes
In her orchards
Seeking solidity and measure
Clasping her most tender flesh
Straining every fine-honed fiber

The ever-patient woman
Slowly
gives herself
light.
hey, go see MY cousin kris if you are in the area and support a great cause and have a good time watching kris! we are, for the most part, a talented (ahem) tho eclectic and delighfully mad family.

Winter Trees
Sylvia Plath

The wet dawn inks are doing their blue dissolve.
On their blotter of fog the trees
Seem a botanical drawing --
Memories growing, ring on ring,
A series of weddings.

Knowing neither abortions nor bitchery,
Truer than women,
They seed so effortlessly!
Tasting the winds, that are footless,
Waist-deep in history --

Full of wings, otherworldliness.
In this, they are Ledas.
O mother of leaves and sweetness
Who are these pietàs?
The shadows of ringdoves chanting, but chasing nothing.

i wonder how long someone can stand in a hot shower til they prune up
or cook like a lobster?

i'm on my way to find out.
wish me luck!

feeeling like i'll live!

nasty, nasty lingering headache but i'll take that over the past week and a half.

my cousin linda ( hi linda)came over and cut my hair. that always makes me feel better. a lot of the reddish color is gone, more blonde and silver and grey now.
plus, it's really short again and i like that better, less fuss.

i figured if i relapsed and ended up at the er i wouldn't have to lay in bed with grimy hair sticking up all over like a demented chicken. been there, done that. always makes me feel worse off than i am.(goofy way of thinking but that's me, GOOFY!!!)

anyway, i am on the mend, even beginning to think of lines of poetry, words, feelings,
all that good stuff!

got this over at cr's place. i needed it this morning.
he always have great things there!

As The Sparrow

To give life you must take life,
and as our grief falls flat and hollow
upon the billion-blooded sea
I pass upon serious inward-breaking shoals rimmed
with white-legged, white-bellied rotting creatures
lengthily dead and rioting against surrounding scenes.
Dear child, I only did to you what the sparrow
did to you; I am old when it is fashionable to be
young; I cry when it is fashionable to laugh.
I hated you when it would have taken less courage
to love.

The number twelve goes to a bar

A number twelve walks into a bar and asks the barman for a pint of beer.

"Sorry I can't serve you," states the barman.

"Why not?!" asks the number twelve with anger showing in its voice.

"You're under 18," replies the barman.

Constantly Risking Absurdity

Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Constantly risking absurdity
and death
whenever he performs
above the heads
of his audience
the poet like an acrobat
climbs on rime
to a high wire of his own making
and balancing on eyebeams
above a sea of faces
paces his way
to the other side of the day
performing entrachats
and sleight-of-foot tricks
and other high theatrics
and all without mistaking
any thing
for what it may not be
For he's the super realist
who must perforce perceive
taut truth
before the taking of each stance or step
in his supposed advance
toward that still higher perch
where Beauty stands and waits
with gravity
to start her death-defying leap
And he
a little charleychaplin man
who may or may not catch
her fair eternal form
spreadeagled in the empty air
of existence

The Little Boy and the Old Man

Shel Silverstein

Said the little boy, "Sometimes I drop my spoon."
Said the old man, "I do that too."
The little boy whispered, "I wet my pants."
"I do that too," laughed the little old man.
Said the little boy, "I often cry."
The old man nodded, "So do I."
"But worst of all," said the boy, "it seems
Grown-ups don't pay attention to me."
And he felt the warmth of a wrinkled old hand.
"I know what you mean," said the little old man.

see...
Ben & Jerry's founders have endorsed Obama

they have an ice cream called "cherries for change"

now, there's an endorsement i can get into.

why??

because i like their philosophy
and they have proved that a quality product can be made without screwing
workers and customers.they have ethics.

(the fact that i love their ice cream is a big ole bonus!)
Was There A Time

Dylan Thomas

Was there a time when dancers with their fiddles
In children's circuses could stay their troubles?
There was a time they could cry over books,
But time has set its maggot on their track.
Under the arc of the sky they are unsafe.
What's never known is safest in this life.
Under the skysigns they who have no arms
Have cleanest hands, and, as the heartless ghost
Alone's unhurt, so the blind man sees best.

pretty much me the last few days!
my brain is still a bit foggy.
throat isn't quite as red and sore. i can swallow without cringing.
just really really tired and my chest hurts a bit.

Dream Deferred

Langston Hughes

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?

Or fester like a sore--
And then run?

Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

been a day chock full o' nutt'n much.

lots of soup and tea and t.v. watching.

skipping from channel to channel looking for anything that might capture my
interest. history channel, discovery, cnbc/cnn/ local news, shop nbc (yes, guilty little secret)and now, hours of the food network.

someone at the club(not sure who, probably diane)took this last summer(had to be late summer cause i don't have a turtleneck on!)
they put it up on the board a few weeks ago(they know i have a good sense of humor) and i brought it home.
it's pre- haircolor change.
i have no idea why it looks as if i'm screaming, tho i'm probably laughing at something.

now you see why people might welcome a sore throat and me being quiet for awhile!

ho, ho!

p.s. i had to take out the red eye. i looked as if i were going to shift into a werewolf! that's probaby why it was put on the board as i am the club's unoffical bouncer. no one wants to be asked to behave by a 5 ft. 2in. gramma! ; )
saturday sun and a sore throat.

well, at least it will keep me quiet

COURAGE.

by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

CARELESSLY over the plain away,
Where by the boldest man no path
Cut before thee thou canst discern,
Make for thyself a path!

Silence, loved one, my heart!
Cracking, let it not break!
Breaking, break not with thee!

friday's joke, but it has a sort of valentiney theme:

Guess Who?

A guy walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man standing at the counter methodically placing "Love" stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. He then takes out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them. His curiosity gets the better of him and he goes up to the balding man and asks him what he's doing.
"I'm sending out 1,000 Valentine's Day cards signed, 'Guess who?'"

"But why?" asks the man.

"I'm a divorce lawyer."
oh, another thing about the post below. in the comments on youtube someone wrote that his parents used to dance to it years ago. my school wouldn't let you mention it, let alone play it. phooey!
to show you how my mind works-
i was on youtube looking for the protest song,"we can't make it here anymore"

and ended up looking for this song instead. i have it on a 45. it was scandalous back in the day. i adore it.

happy valentine's day! ; )

below is a reprint from, THE TOWN FLYER a wonderful local newsletter.
2 of the organizations/clubs i belong to always hold events for the kid's toy drive. i've mentioned it here more than once so i thought i'd share the happy results:

Toys For Children Campaign Overwhelming
Success

This was the tenth year of the Christmas Toys for Children Campaign and by far it was the most successful. We would like to thank all of the generous individuals and businesses that purchased toys, made monetary donations and those who assisted in wrapping the presents for the children.

The donations were used to purchase additional toys and clothing. Fifty families, which included 117 children, participated in the program. Over 700 presents were distributed and 125 of the toys will be used for next years campaign. In addition to the presents each family received food items and each child received a $20.00 gift card towards the purchase of a pair of shoes.

Your support is very much appreciated by the West Deer Police Department, crime watch and all those who participated in the program. We have an excellent start to the 2008 campaign. Your kindness and generosity is very much appreciated.
i've posted this before but it is a very favorite of mine. i've even seen a bangle bracelet engraved with it. so, i'd say a lot of people find it as wonderful as i do.

happy valentine's day everyone!

i carry your heart with me

by E. E. Cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

My Dog's My Boss

by Robert William Service

Each day when it's anighing three
Old Dick looks at the clock,
Then proudly brings my stick to me
To mind me of our walk.
And in his doggy rapture he
Does everything but talk.

But since I lack his zip and zest
My old bones often tire;
And so I ventured to suggest
Today we hug the fire.
But with what wailing he expressed
The death of his desire!

He gazed at me with eyes of woe
As if to say: 'Old boy,
You mustn't lose your grip, you know,
Let us with laughing joy,
On heath and hill six miles or so
Our legs and lungs employ.'

And then his bark was stilled to a sigh
He flopped upon the floor;
But such a soft old mug am I
I threw awide the door;
So gaily, though the wind was high
We hiked across the moor.
congrats to uno!

i love beagles. we always had beagles when i was a kid.

Your Candy Heart Says "Hug Me"

A total sweetheart, you always have a lot of love to give out.
Your heart is open to where ever love takes you!

Your ideal Valentine's Day date: a surprise romantic evening that you've planned out

Your flirting style: lots of listening and talking

What turns you off: fighting and conflict

Why you're hot: you're fearless about falling in love
snow, and ice later.
it is already in my bones.

To Flowers From Italy in Winter

by Thomas Hardy

Sunned in the South, and here to-day;
--If all organic things
Be sentient, Flowers, as some men say,
What are your ponderings?

How can you stay, nor vanish quite
From this bleak spot of thorn,
And birch, and fir, and frozen white
Expanse of the forlorn?

Frail luckless exiles hither brought!
Your dust will not regain
Old sunny haunts of Classic thought
When you shall waste and wane;

But mix with alien earth, be lit
With frigid Boreal flame,
And not a sign remain in it
To tell men whence you came.
3 damn degrees and a hellish wind chill, worse crap tomorrow.

back to the machine gun

I awaken about noon and go out to get the mail
in my old torn bathrobe.
I'm hung over
hair down in my eyes
barefoot
gingerly walking on the small sharp rocks
in my path
still afraid of pain behind my four-day beard.

the young housewife next door shakes a rug
out of her window and sees me:
"hello, Hank!"

god damn! it's almost like being shot in the ass
with a .22

"hello," I say
gathering up my Visa card bill, my Pennysaver coupons,
a Dept. of Water and Power past-due notice,
a letter from the mortgage people
plus a demand from the Weed Abatement Department
giving me 30 days to clean up my act.

I mince back again over the small sharp rocks
thinking, maybe I'd better write something tonight,
they all seem
to be closing in.

there's only one way to handle those motherfuckers.

the night harness races will have to wait.

friday's joke - about a half an hour early!

It has long been contended that there are male Jokes and there are female jokes, and there are unisex Jokes. Here is a joke I consider a true female joke.

I offer it to you in the hopes

that women will love it

And men will pass it along

to a woman who will love it.

A woman was sitting at a bar enjoying an after work cocktail with her girlfriends when an exceptionally tall, handsome, extremely sexy, middle-aged man entered. He was so striking that the woman could not take her eyes off him.

The young-at-heart man noticed her overly attentive stare and walked directly toward her. (As All men will.) Before she could offer her apologies for staring so rudely, he leaned over and whispered to her, "I'll do anything, absolutely anything, that you want me to do, no matter how kinky, for $20.00........

on one condition"

Flabbergasted, the woman asked what the condition was. The man replied, "You have to tell me what you want me to do in just three words." ;

The woman considered his proposition for a moment, And then slowly removed a $20 bill from her purse, Which she pressed into the man's hand along with her address. She looked deeply into his eyes, and slowly and meaningfully said.....

"Clean my house."
the FIRST person that came to mind was pittgirl!
