Grove Harris. Writer, speaker and consultant on religious diversity in America Samhain 2011: Celebrating our Ancestors and the Earth Posted: 10/31/11 07:25 AM ET In this week leading up to Samhain, there are dramatically high tides, a dark moon and cold coming after an unseasonably warm month. The darkness each night seems so early; the turning of the wheel is upon us. This is an excellent time of year to listen to the rustling leaves for messages from our intuitions and from our beloved dead and ancestors. These are times of great challenge, from environmental devastation leading to the flooding in El Salvador, the earthquake in Turkey, the starvation in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia, to the crumbling economic systems that still favor the 1 percent. This is a wonderful time to listen to prophetic voices that may arise from within or without, from personal connection to the Earth or collective experience. We need the wisdom of our ancestors, the guidance of love and intuition from the Earth so that as this season of death turns towards rebirth, we will find a profound renewal that serves all of the interconnected web of life. Pagans, Witches, Wiccans, Goddess Worshipers, everyone who chooses to honor the seasonal changes will gather, many on Saturday night, many more on October 31st, to honor the Earth and our beloved dead, to acknowledge that death is a part of life, to witness to our losses, and begin to welcome the new year. Most will gather in private with friends, and many will offer public rituals--many are already listed on Witchvox.com. Many rituals are traditions of many years standing, and many are created anew this year. There is no need to celebrate in solitude. We are all going to die. Death is a transition into mystery, into spiritual realms, perhaps to feed ongoing life on earth, perhaps to journey further in spirit, perhaps both. Perhaps neither. It's a mystery. The question is how can we most deeply listen this year, when the veils between the spirit and earthly realms are most thin, to receive guidance, courage and clarity for the days to come? My personal preparation includes unburdening my heart by the ocean. Nature feeds me and moves me to awe. Political activism is part of how I honor that awe, so I stand up with the Occupy Wall Street movement. It is joyous to come together as a radically diverse 99 percent, and acknowledge the devastating economic system that does not serve the people, that is destroying the environment, accumulating wealth for the few beyond all reason and making a farce of democracy. How do I take responsibility for my part? How do I think outside the boxes of what I've been taught? How do I contribute to positive visions for a future worth living in? All good questions to ask the darkening night, the stars in the sky, and the spirits that abound. This Samhain, I hope to take courage and comfort from the ceremonies, from listening to ancestors who have gone before, from moments with my beloved dead and from time spent in community. Face to face. In sacred space. Not online, not brokered by Facebook or email or cell phone or text. In person, in body, and open and present to spiritual realms. We need all the help we can get. Get off line. Go Outside. Listen.

snowed last night- not much but it's heavy and very wet. the trees still have lots of leaves and the weight of the snow has broken a smaller branch off of my maple in the front yard. it was hanging over the mail box this morning when i got up. it also makes for bad footing with wet leaves and snow. not good- thankfully tomorrow is supposed to be warmer!

Alabama Immigration Law Backfires, Colbert Says 'I Told You So' (VIDEO) The Huffington Post Carol Hartsell First Posted: 10/27/11 12:14 PM ET Updated: 10/27/11 12:14 PM ET Stephen Colbert was roundly criticized by politicos last year for his tongue-in-cheek congressional testimony on the plight of illegal farm workers, but now he's getting to revel in his own prescience. After spending a day working on an upstate New York farm as part of the Take Our Jobs project, Colbert testified about his experiences before congress, sarcastically lamenting the backbreaking nature of the work due to most soil being at ground level. The stunt was an attempt to shed light on the country's benefiting off of the labor of the very people it maligns as a scourge on our resources, but it was a point not well-taken by many of the assembled. Flash forward to today and the state of Alabama, having passed the country's toughest immigration law, is seeing its crops rot on the vine due to a lack of experienced laborers to work the fields. Had Alabama's legislators simply watched "The Report," maybe they would have known what to expect. According to Colbert, "No one could have predicted this would happen, except me." Obviously, Colbert isn't one to say "I told you so." No, he's the kind of guy who puts that on a banner and mocks you relentlessly for four minutes. Of course, liberals out there are gloating that Alabama is just reaping what it sowed. Wrong, 'cause there are no immigrants left to reap it. The real-life story has taken a turn for the absurd, as Alabama is attempting to replace the migrant workers who have fled the state with prison laborers, who farmers admit don't work as hard as their predecessors. Turns out, Americans who've chose a life of crime don't have quite the same work ethic as Guatemalans who've walked through 500 miles of desert to feed their children. It remains to be seen what the outcome of Alabama's potentially disastrous legislation will be, but according to Colbert, desperate times call for desperate measures: To preserve our precious BLTs we must do whatever it takes... other than offer these people any rights.

Thought you'd enjoy this one! This one you want your Children and Grandchildren to read. They won’t believe this happened, but it DID. Harry & Bess This seems unreal..... Harry Truman was a different kind of President. He probably made as many, or more important decisions regarding our nation's history as any of the other 42 Presidents preceding him. However, a measure of his greatness may rest on what he did after he left the White House. The only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which was in Independence Missouri . His wife had inherited the house from her mother and father and other than their years in the White House, they lived their entire lives there. When he retired from office in 1952, his income was a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a year. Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an 'allowance' and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year. After President Eisenhower was inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home to Missouri by themselves. There was no Secret Service following them. When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, "You don 't want me. You want the office of the President, and that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the American people and it's not for sale.." Even later, on May 6, 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him the Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writing, "I don 't consider that I have don e anything which should be the reason for any award, Congressional or otherwise.." As president he paid for all of his own travel expenses and food. Modern politicians have found a new level of success in cashing in on the Presidency, resulting in untold wealth. Today, many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their offices. Political offices are now for sale. (sic. Illinois ) Good old Harry Truman was correct when he observed, "My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference! I say dig him up and clone him!!

Perry Adviser Steve Forbes Crafted Flat Tax Plan That Would Have Given Himself A $1.9 Billion Tax Cut By Travis Waldron on Oct 24, 2011 at 2:00 pm Steve Forbes After telling former pizza magnate Herman Cain — proponent of the 999 tax plan — that he’d be glad to “bump plans with you, brother,” Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) is set to release his own flat tax plan tomorrow. While many details of the plan are still unknown, it is expected to take similar form to the flat tax pushed by Steve Forbes, CEO of Forbes Media, when he ran for president in 1996. Forbes officially endorsed Perry today and helped draft Perry’s version of the flat tax. The flat tax proposal will likely fall short of generating the same amount of government revenue as the current tax structure, as most all flat tax plans do. What it will do, however, is provide a huge windfall to wealthy individuals like Forbes, whose net worth is already about $430 million. In fact, Citizens for Tax Justice analyzed the plan Forbes’ proposed in 1995 and found that it would give him a total tax break worth $1.9 billion over 30 years: Taking Forbes up on his suggestion, Citizens for Tax Justice, a non-partisan research group, has updated its earlier analysis of Forbes’s personal tax savings from his proposed 17% flat tax. CTJ’s new, more “dynamic” analysis looks not only at Forbes’s current annual savings from his flat tax, but also at his long-term tax savings. Over the long term, CTJ estimates that Forbes’s tax savings from his flat tax would total approximately $1.9 billion. At the time of CTJ’s analysis, Forbes earned about $1.6 million annually, and his flat tax plan would have cut his annual tax liability by more than half. But the bulk of Forbes’ savings would have come from investments., as the Forbes plan exempted interest, dividends, and capital gains from taxation. Meanwhile, the 17 percent flat tax Forbes proposed would have blown a $200 billion hole in the federal budget, and its benefits wouldn’t have been shared by low- and middle-income Americans — two-thirds of its proposed tax reductions would have gone to those earning more than $200,000 a year. In order to avoid adding to the deficit, the Forbes plan would have had to include a massive tax hike on the poor. Perry’s plan won’t come out until tomorrow, but if it is similar to the Forbes plan, the implications are clear: it will be yet another Republican plan that requires poor and middle-class Americans to shoulder the cost of a humongous tax cut for the rich.
Republicans for Obama: ‎"Their leader, Mitch McConnell said that – and I’m going to make sure I quote this properly – saving jobs of teachers and firefighters was just, and I quote, a bailout. A bailout! These aren’t bad actors who somehow screwed up the economy. They didn’t act irresponsibly. These are the men and women who teach our children and patrol our streets and run into burning buildings and save people. They deserve our support." — President Barack Obama
did a few things around here and then stopped-don't want to chance opening up the incision. so far- so good and i'm feeling much much better- the pain in my tailbone is gone! so even tho i'm sore- i'm way way better than before the surgery-that darn tumor must have been pressuring on the bone for quite some time before the tumor itself started to hurt.

A single childless person making 25k a year pays $1,404 in income taxes. Of that, 3.6% is given to food assistance programs. In total, it is $50.54 a year. .97 cents a week. A whole 13 cents a day. So when someone complains about 'paying for' food stamps, let them know they are complaining about a dime and three pennies. Can you spare it?
YEAH! took off the bandages-still have one of those clear patches over the incision- those patches wear like iron. felt so much better after showering and washing my hair. doesn't look bad at all- had to use a mirror to look at it cause it's vertical right alongside of my tail bone. if i was 20 years old again i could still wear a bikini- no amount of anything short of a miracle will bring that sherry back! ; )
can't wait- i get to take off the bandages and shower later!!! yippee!

I love it when I wake up in the morning and Barack Obama is President : ‎"If you'd told me in January 2009 that the banks would pay us back the entire bailout and then some, that the auto companies would actually turn around with government help and be a major engine of recovery, that there would be continuous job growth since 2009, however insufficient, after the worst demand collapse since the 1930s, that bin Laden would be dead, Egypt transitioning to democracy, al Qaeda all but decimated as a global threat, and civil rights for gays expanding more rapidly than at any time in history ... well I would be expecting a triumphant re-election campaign."

Regular mail takes far too long due to all of the security measures. If you can, please leave a comment letting us know that you sent a letter, what state your from and who your Congressman is. Thanks! Copy Text Below The Honorable ___________________ ___________________Senate/House Office Building Washington, DC 20510/20515 Dear Senator/Congressman ____________________: As someone closely touched by Neurofibromatosis (NF), I write to request that you include the House passed level of $12.8 million for the Army’s Neurofibromatosis Research Program (NFRP) in the final version of the Fiscal Year 2012 Department of Defense Appropriations bill. NF involves the uncontrolled growth of tumors along the nervous system, which can result in terrible disfigurement, deformity, deafness, blindness, brain tumors, cancer and death. NF is the most common neurological disorder caused by a single gene and is more common than muscular dystrophy and cystic fibrosis combined. In addition, Neurofibromatosis research addresses areas of great clinical need directly affecting the health of our soldiers. NF is a complicated condition closely connected to many common diseases and disorders that can lead to unmanageable pain, learning disabilities, cancer, orthopedic abnormalities, deafness, blindness, memory loss, and amputation. NF also involves inflammation similar to that involved in wound healing. Recognizing NF’s importance to both the military and to the general population, Congress has given the NFRP strong bipartisan support. The Army’s program funds innovative, groundbreaking research which would not otherwise have been pursued, and has produced major advances in NF research, including conducting clinical trials in a nation-wide clinical trials infrastructure created by NFRP funding. The Department of Defense fills a special role by providing peer-reviewed funding for innovative, high-risk/high-reward medical research through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). The well-executed and efficient programs within the CDMRP, including the NFRP, demonstrate the government’s responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Research grants are awarded to researchers in every state in the country through a competitive two-tier review process. The Army’s highly successful NF Research Program has shown tangible results and direct military application with broad implications for the general population. Continued funding is needed to continue to build on the successes of this program, and to fund this promising research thereby continuing the enormous return on the taxpayers’ investment. I respectfully request that you include the House passed level of $12.8 million for the Army’s NF research program in the final version of the Fiscal Year 2012 Department of Defense Appropriations bill. Sincerely, Name & Address

me- this isn't funny- tho it seems that was to some-this is sad. this lady and many others believe this in their hearts. it isn't true and if you break it down issue by issue and term by term that she uses- republic, democracy, liberal, socialist... it makes no sense but it's been spoonfed to people like her by FOX and limbaugh FOR the republican corporation owners, the millionaires and billionaires-the robber barons. she repeats their lines almost word for word-and i know- i watch them. she and the others, well meaning folks, are being used, USED, and it makes me sad and angry that she is being lied to and scared for no other reason than a corporations greed.
